Rashpasing Mayur made
history as the first apprentice from Mauritius to score in the country when
he partnered KIWI MAESTRO in a Class 5 - 1600m handicap here today.
The 10-year-old gelding,
who started second favourite in the seven-horse field, ran down the
front-running COIL to win by a neck in the soft going.
Rashpassing is one of seven
track riders from Mauritius who recently graduated from the Perak Turf Club
Apprentice Training Academy having achieved a level of competency in various
discipline required to become a professional jockey.
Four of them have been
granted "B' grade apprentice licenes for the 2015 season by the Perak Turf
Club.
The others are Daniel
Jagasishan, 23, who is indentured to Chong Keng Leong, Muhammad Beelal
Deenath, 20, who is indentured to Kevin Coetzee and Brandon Hansley Louis,
19, who is indentured to Shanmugam Subramaniam.
Rashpassing, 21, who
finished third on ROCKET EXPRESS in his debut last Sunday, stepped up on
that effort to win on KIWI MAESTRO for his master Nor Azman.
The apprentice course at
the PRTC Apprentice Training Academy is conducted under the tutelage of
various instructors including acting chief stipendiary steward Peter
Dombkins, senior veterinary surgeon Dr Alistair Murdoch, equestrian manager
Sheila Matthew and riding master Ismadi Ismail.
