Rodd lands maiden win in Singapore

After drawing a blank on his first day on the job on New Year's Day, top Australian jockey Michael Rodd stepped it up to boot home a double at Kranji here today.

The well-performed HUKA FALLS chalked up his 13th win in 29 starts to give Rodd his breakthrough in the Open - 1100m handicap.

Rodd quickly followed up in the next event to score on TORRECAMPO, who had to fight for a narrow victory for his second win in five starts in Singapore, after chalking up two seconds from nine outings in Malaysua.

They were the first wins for 32-year-old, who made a one-day visit to Singapore to ride in the KrisFlyer International Sprint in 2010 and has been granted a three-month licence to ride in Singapore starting Jan 1.

"“It’s good to get that first win early. To get two is a nice bonus," said Rodd, who won the 2007 Melbourne Cup on EFFICIENT.

There are now two Melbourne Cup winning jockeys riding in Singapore. The other being Corey Brown who piloted SHOCKING to victory in 2009.
