Rueven plays spoiler with three surprises

Apprentice Rueven Ravindra broke punters' hearts with three big-priced winners from five rides on the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.

In the opening event, Rueven took JOE SWIPER ($79) to a runaway five-and-a-half-length win over the favourite SECRET SPICE for the gelding's maiden success in seven starts. He was purchased by his owners for NZ$45,000 at the Ready To Run Sale.

A bigger surprise was in store from Rueven two races later when REYSHA returned to the winner's circle after 20 months, ending a unplaced sequence of 12 runs. He won by a head and paid $129.

Originally purchased and raced by trainer LN Danis in Penang, he won one race before heading down south and today's outing was the first time he has shown up in the money.

Rueven was also on target in the Benchmark 67 - 1100m sprint with STRUBELI. The New Zealand gelding, unplaced in his last six starts, won easily by two and a half lengths to pay $57. It was his fifth win in 20 starts.
