The number 13 may be
unlucky for some but brought joy for apprentice Saddam Hussein Saari.
Saddam, who had four second placings in 12
previous rides, produced the big shock of the afternoon when he partnered
ALL SERENE to a runaway win in the Osaka Handicap (Class 4 - 1100m) over the
straight course.
Winner of one race back in 2013 in 20 starts in Singapore, ALL SERENE was
having his second start in Malaysia. The six-year-old paid RM216.
A chance ride brought a lucky break for
another apprentice Lee Wai Keat.
was a last-minute replacement for fellow
apprentice P Deneskumar who could not make the weight on BOWEN LAD in the
Beppu Handicap (Class 5 - 1400m).
Lee managed just two placings in 27 rides
this season, after having landed two winners in his maiden season last year.
For BOWEN LAD, it was his maiden win 21
starts.
