The last-minute withdrawal of WAR AFFAIR robbed this year's Jumbo Jet Trophy of much needed opposition for the top-weight and favourite SPALATO in the Singapore Group 3 event at Kranji here today.

In the end though, SPALATO did what he set out to do, winning as he liked against his five remaining rivals in the weight-for-age contest over 1400m.

The New Zealand gelding made a big break in the back straight and was well clear into the straight before easing down by jockey Manoel Nunes to win by one and a half lengths.

His win today means that SPALATO remains unbeaten in eight starts in Singapore while the two unplaced runs on his record were in Hong Kong at the tail-end of last year.

Having won the Patrons' Bowl and Emirates Singapore Derby last year, SPALATO could be off to another overseas stint.

"There are some good races here in Singapore and there are some good races in Australia, too. We’ll let you know as soon as possible which way he’s going," said owner Graham Mackie when pressed on the future plans for his champion galloper.
