SUPER ONE lived up to his
name when he annihilated his rivals to win the S$325,000 Aushorse Golden
Horseshoe (1200m) at Kranji here tonight.
With Craig Newitt on board,
the Australian colt quickly opened up a lead after the jump and cruised all
the way to win by five lengths in the Singapore Group 2 contest for
two-year-olds, the final race of the six-leg Aushorse Golden Horseshoe
series.
With the win, SUPER ONE,
trained by Michael Freedman, stays unbeaten in three starts, taking three
legs in the series
"It’s a big relief he won
especially when you are the short-priced favourite going into a big race
like this," said Freedman of his charge who was the $6 odds-on favourite.
"He’s still got plenty of scope for improvement, but he sure is a very
exciting horse."
Winning rider Newitt, who
has done well in his first season in Singapore, said: "I’ve ridden another
two-year-old who won a Group 1, SAMAREADY in the Blue Diamond Stakes (2012)
and this one is as good as any two-year-old you would ever see."
High praise indeed for
SUPER ONE who was purchased by Freedman for A$190,000 as a yearling.
