Olympic glory for Michael Rodd

It's one-win-from-one-ride for Aussie rider Michael Rodd at Kranji here tonight, and his winner was a horse he had piloted to victory three times previously.

The last time Rodd sat on board the New Zealand gelding was when they won a Benchmark 89 event over 1100m on the polytrack back in May.

Three starts later, with Rodd back in the saddle, OLYMPIC ANTHEM sat behind the pace and switched out at the right moment to win by three-quarter length.

"He's not an easy horse to train. You can't do too much with him, and he's also got a bad mouth," said Rodd who was delighted to win his only ride of the evening.

Trainer James Peters said OLYMPIC ANTHEM has lots of potential but needs to have things his way. "Michael gets along well with him," said the first-season trainer.

OLYMPIC ANTHEM has now starts 15 times for six wins in Singapore. Bought for NZ$150,000 as a yearling, he raced 10 times in Australia, winning twice and was board twice in group races.
