Mr Armstrong bags Sprint Trophy

Apprentice Aizat Abdul Malik landed the biggest win of his career when he partnered MR ARMSTRONG to win the RM300,000 Sprint Trophy here today.

He became only the second apprentice to win the 1400m sprint after Benny Woodworth (FISCHER in 1995).

MR ARMSTRONG beat TRUSON by a neck with WORLD HARMONY another half a length away third.

The Australian gelding joined a growing list of Singapore gallopers who have claimed a big race in Malaysia after moving across the causeway.

Purchased for A$65,000 as a yearling, MR ARMSTRONG won five races for trainer Michael Freedman from 2012 to 2014 in Singapore.

Since joining trainer Frank Maynard last year, MR ARMSTRONG has picked up three wins and was third to LISTEN in the Selangor Gold Cup (1600m) last April.

It was the third Sprint Trophy success for Maynard who first won with JERAM NEW VILLAGE in 2005 and repeated the success with CHEYENNE DANCER in 2008.
