Baab Al Nasr upsets in first Kranji win

After finishing down the field in four starts, BAAB AL NASR, whose name means gate of victory in Arabic, showed up for the first time to cause an upset in the Kranji Stakes D, Div 1 - 1600m event on the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.

Ridden by apprentice Firdhaus Rafi who has partnered him in his runs thus far, the French gelding made all the running and was simply too good for his rivals, romping home by 4 1/4-lengths. He paid $136 for a win.

BAAB AL NASR won his only run in France over 1300m at Deauville but managed only a second and a fourth in seven starts in Hong Kong before coming to Singapore.

"He’s a very hard horse to ride. He gets his head up and is very hard to control," said Firdhaus who was enjoying his third win of the season. "I just tried my best to keep him relaxed and when I let him go, he responded very well."
