DEBT COLLECTOR came with his customary late surge to win the S$700,000
Raffles Cup (1800m) at Kranji here today to make it seven consecutive wins
for the New Zealand four-year-old.
However,
after having also won the first leg of the Singapore Triple Crown series,
the Panasonic Kranji Mile (1600m), early this month, trainer Cliff Brown
ruled out taking on Dexter Singapore Gold Cup (2200m) next month which is a
handicap.
Instead, Brown will give his charge
a well-deserved rest, no doubt with next year's Four-Year-Old Challenge in
mind. The series concludes with the Singapore Derby which is worth $1.15mil.
The Raffles Cup this year attracted a small but select
field of seven runners and DEBT COLLECTOR once again stamped his class with
a come-from-behind victory, beating the 2014 Singapore Gold Cup winner
QUECHUA by half a length.
"This
horse is an absolute freak. All week, I was not that confident he would win,
but he’s done it again," said Brown. "I genuinely thought he would run third
or fourth in the last 200m. It’s only in the last 50m that he found again. To
do what he did today was just amazing."
DEBT COLLECTOR has now started 10
times for seven wins, collecting S$1.38 mil in prizemoney.
