Mauritius lads in the limelight

Last year saw the introduction of apprentices from Mauritius who had graduated from the Perak Turf Club Apprentice Training Academy and subsequently indentured to local trainers to gain riding experience.

All but one of the seven lads won at least a race each with Daniel Jagadishan top-scoring with seven winners.

Daniel is again leading the group of four Mauritius apprentices who have remained on the circuit this season after winning his second race of the season on BARKER ROAD KID.

Daniel had ridden the Australian gelding three times last year without success but his luck changed time time in the opening race here today. The five-year-old has won his first race of the season on this track on New Year's Day. Today's win was the gelding's third in 28 starts.

Rashpassing Mayur, who managed one win last year, was off the mark in the new season after winning on BRAVE SISTER.

The Australian mare began her career in Malaysia with a second and win in two starts before venturing south. But she failed to make any impression in 11 outings at Kranji and today run was her third after reuniting with trainer Kevin Cozteee.
