lands shock win

Despite winning two starts back,
FRAGRANCE EMPIRE was allowed to start at long odds in the Kranji Stake D,
Div 2 event over 1000m on the polytrack at Kranji here tonight, probably
because he beat one home in his last run in a similar event.
But the American gelding, ridden by Mark Ewe who had partnered him to two
wins previously, quickly made amends to beat another outsider GREAT BALLS
OFFIRE to pay $245 for a win.
It was the fifth win in 33 starts for FRAGRANCE EMPIRE who cost just
US$1,500 as a yearling.
Former Malaysian champion jockey Azhar Ismail, whose has have limited
opportunities since moving to Singapore, notched only his second win of the
season at Kranji when successful on newcomer MIGHTY CONQUEROR in the
Initiation - 1200m sprint.
