Laughing Gravy too classy in QE II Cup

Late boomer LAUGHING GRAVY clinched his biggest win to date when he scored a resounding win in the $800,000 Queen Elizabeth II Cup over 2000m at Kranji here today.

The Singapore Group 1 event attracted a small but elite field of nine runners and LAUGHING GRAVY, who rapidly moved up the class with three wins coming into today's race, was the lowest rated runner at 85 rating points.

Although he had won his last start over the same trip by 4 3/4 lengths, it wasn't certain the Australian gelding could measure up to today's company.

"I thought he needed to improve, but Glen (Boss) had a different opinion and he convinced me," said trainer Cliff Brown.

After overcoming his wide draw, Boss parked LAUGHING GRAVY in a handy position before shooting to the front at the home bend and won by 2 1/2 lengths. It was the gelding's sixth win in 16 starts in Singapore.

LAUGHING GRAVY (late Frenzy Fox) did not race at two and was unplaced in his only start at three. He then won his only other outing at four in a maiden at a country track (Murtoa) before coming over to Singapore.
