Apprentice Mohd Khairi Hanif was today suspended three months for his ride on PROPITIONS GOLD in a Class 5 - 1300m handicap last Dec 26, the final race of the 2015 racing season.

The Australian five-year-old, trained by Wong Kong Fatt, started well but faded to finish 14th behind ROCKET EXPRESS.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today at the Penang Turf Club, Hanif, in the presence of his acting master Wong, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride PROPITIONS GOLD to the satisfaction of the Stewards in the above race. The particulars of the charge were that from shortly after the start to approximately the 500m mark, he gave up his advantage of an inside draw as well as the advantage of racing with the speed and the pace, thereby lost his position when his horse was travelling very well and when it was unreasonable to give up his rightful position. As a consequence, this put PROPITIONS GOLD too far back when entering the home straight.
