Tunku Gold Cup win KUALA

IMPEL, sent over to Malaysia after
finishing dead last in his final race at Kranji last March, is now unbeaten
in three starts in the country.
The New Zealand gelding marked his vast improvement under trainer Frank
Maynard with a smashing win in the RM212,000 Tunku Gold Cup (1200m) at
Sungei Besi here today.
Partnered by Ruzaini Supien, IMPEL was in midfield early but gradually made
up ground on the leaders next to the rails and was poised to strike at the
home bend.
A big gap opened up at the top of the straight when the leader BLACK AND
WHITE drifted out and IMPEL quickly charge through and went on to win by
three lengths.
IMPEL won twice in seven starts in New Zealand and he was fairly consistent
in Singapore with a win and four placings from eight starts at Kranji.
