Juglall bags career-first five-timer

Mauritian jockey Nooresh Juglall was on cloud nine at Kranji here tonight after booting home five winners, his career-first five-timer.

Twice champion apprentice in South Africa, Juglall rode four winners (War Time, Emperor’s Banquet, Peace No War and Gilt Lad) in his first season in Singapore in the corresponding week two years ago.

"I knew I had a decent book of rides tonight and I was expecting at least one or two winners, but five was beyond my wildest dreams,” said Juglall after jumping off QUEEN ROULETTE, the last of his five winners.

Juglall struck with his very first ride on MIGHTY KENNY in the second event tonight, and after finishing third in his next mount (PURE WHITE), reeled off wins in four consecutive races astride MIGHTY EMPEROR, BIG BROTHER, RAFAELLO and QUEEN ROULETTE.

Of his five winners, Juglall must have a soft spot for RAFAELLO whom he has partnered to six wins.

"Rafaello has now won six times and I was aboard at each one of them. He’s a very genuine horse," he said.
