A change of rider to first-time partner saw MYSTIC MASTER ended a run of five minor placings to win the S$200,000 Juvenile Championship (1200m) at Kranji here today.

Alan Munro parked the Snippetson colt just outside the favourite CAORUNN and they raced past the pacemaker to win by 1 1/4 lengths. SKYWALK came on strongly to beat CAORUNN to take second placing.

With MYSTIC MASTER playing bridesmaid in four of his five starts prior to today's Group 3 contest, punters neglected the colt in the betting and he paid $73 for a win in a small field of eight.

"He’s a horse who always gives his best. I’m glad he’s finally won, and it’s a bonus he’s won the cup race," said trainer Alwin Tan who purchased the colt for A$70,000 at the Horses In Training Sale.

"I believe the sting out of the ground helped him today. He’s also a horse who doesn’t like to be crowded and today, he had a clear run to the line. That’s why I decided to avoid the Aushorse race as it was a big field of 14 runners."
