First day success for Daniel Meagher

After narrowly missing out winning with his very first runner earlier in the evening, newly-licensed trainer Daniel Meagher made it count with his next to mark his debut as the new-kid-on-the-block at Kranji here tonight.

Meagher is no stranger to Kranji and Singapore racing as he was assistant to his father John for many years before the family moved back to Australia to continue training as an unit.

When it's time for Daniel to branch out on his own, it was not surprising for him to choose Singapore as his launching pad, given that his wife is ex-Singapore jockey Sabrina Kadir.

His first runner SUGARTIME JAZZ was beaten a head in the first race but seven races later, he made his mark with LIM'S ACTION.

Sent out odds-on favourite after a series of minor placings, the New Zealand gelding settled just off the pace in third spot before sweeping past the pacemaker LAKE HUKA to win by one length for his second win in 10 starts.

"I'm really happy with my first day, after SUGARTIME JAZZ came close and then our best chance LIM'S ACTION won, it doesn't get any better than that, but I have to first and foremost say thank you to the Singapore Turf Club for presenting me with this opportunity," said Daniel. Father John was in the stands to watch his son's maiden success.
