Nunes bags third title with double

Manoel Nunes was handed two suspensions totalling six race days last week but that did not deter him from booting home a double at Kranji here tonight, the penultimate day of the 2016 season.

The double on SATCHMO and RETURN TO JUSTICE assured him of the champion jockey's title for the third straight season, although this is the first time in four years that he failed to hit 100.

In his maiden season in Singapore in 2013, Nunes rode 112 winners to finish second to Joao Moreira (179). With Moreira's departure to Hong Kong, Nunes won the premiership in 2014 with 108 winners. He improved his score to 122 last year.

Nunes's double tonight brought his tally to 74 for the season, 10 ahead of Vlad Duric.

STAHCMO, who was initially imported into Malaysia but started racing in Singapore, landed his first win in 15 starts while RETURN TO JUSTICE also broke the duck in his fourth apperance.
