Nova Strike wins Landex Cup

When it comes to the big races, NOVA STRIKE did not quite live up to his name.

The son of Red Giant has contested group races five times in the past for two seconds and a third.

Just last week, the New Zealand gelding finished third to SPANISH BAY in the Group 3 Saas Fee Stakes after starting as the joint favourite in the 1400m condition-weight event.

His connections decided to back him up for the S$125,000 Landex Cup today although it does not have a group status.

And NOVA STRIKE repaid them this time, coming from last at the home turn to win the condition-weight 1200m sprint drawing away by 1 1/2 lengths.

"He raced seven days ago and he ran on well in a very strong field," said trainer Alwin Tan. "That’s why we decided to run him in this race today. It was a last-minute decision and it’s paid off."

NOVA STRIKE, bought for NZ$60,000 at the Ready To Run sale, has now started 20 times for six wins and nine placings.
