Twickenham wins on return to action

After two unplaced runs over 2200m at the tailend of last year including the Singapore Gold Cup, TWICKENHAM showed that he is ready to tackle the tasks ahead in the new season with a first-up win over 1400m at Kranji here today.

The Australian gelding progressed through the ranks starting from Restricted Maiden company in 2014 and has now picked up seven wins in 17 starts.

Ridden by Vlad Duric for the first time today, TWICKENHAM surged to the front at the home bend and fought hard to hold off the favourite DRAGON FURY to win by a head in the Benchmark 89 event.

"It was a good effort first-up. He was meant to run last week but he was balloted out," said trainer Stephen Gray.

For Duric, it was his fourth treble in as many weeks, having scored on PALTROW and FITZROY earlier in the programme.
