After finding one to beat four
times in six starts and finishing on board in the other two, WONDERFUL
finally got off the mark in Singapore when he held off the late challenge of
GOLDEN CASINO to take the Class 4 - 1100m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji
this evening.
The change of fortune for the Australian gelding came after a switch of
trainer to Shane Baertschiger after the four-year-old's last run in April.
It paid immediate dividend as WONDERFUL, ridden by John Powell for the first
time, came from just off the pace to win by a neck.
WONDERFUL was purchased by his owner for A$110,000 at the Horses In Training
sale and won his only start at Canterbury in Sydney at three before coming
over to Singapore.
"He’s
a quick horse and was in a good spot throughout. He wants further and JP
said he is looking for 1400m," said Baertschiger.
