Zac Spirit back at best in Lion City Cup

After nearly a year out of action, ZAC SPIRIT managed to regain his best form to clinch his second Lion City Cup in the Group 1 sprint at Kranji here this afternoon.

After running unplaced in the KrisFlyer International Sprint last May, he was diagnosed with a knee chip and only returned to action three weeks ago when he found one to beat in EMPEROR MAX.

With the run under his belt, ZAC SPIRIT, ridden by Vlad Duric, turned the tables on EMPEROR MAX to beat him by a length after the latter had attempted to lead all the way.

It was the biggest win for Duric on his return to Singapore racing this season after a lapse of four years.

"I only watched his races on TV when I was in Australia and I knew how good he was," said Duric who has now ridden the gelding twice for a second and a win.

For ZAC SPIRIT, who was purchased by trainer Cliff Brown for A$140,000 as a yearling, it was his his 11th win in 22 starts. He was also second to WAR AFFAIR in the 1200m sprint last year.
