in Golden Horseshoe

When BE BEE won his belated debut
two weeks ago, trainer Shane Baertschiger boldly claimed that the Showcasing
gelding was the best two-year-old he has.
That proved to be right on the spot for the trainer when BE BEE scored an
easy win in the S$325,000 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe at Kranji here tonight.
Ridden by John Powell, BE BEE sat nicely just off the pace till the home
stretch before running down the pacemaker CHARGER to win by 1 3/4 lengths.
Despite his recent success, he started at a very generous $106.
Bought for NZ$250,000 at the Ready To Run sale, BE BEE suffered a
nasty injury three months ago which
meant he missed all the Golden Horseshoe series leading up to tonight's big
race.
"Tonight’s
Aushorse was one of the best quality fields we’ve ever seen," said
Baertschiger. "After the Strangles outbreak, we could not buy a lot of
two-year-olds but the quality has improved since, and it’s great for our
racing."
BE BEE will now go for the Juvenile Championship in three weeks' time. The
two-year-old race will be run over 1400m for the first time this year.
