COUNTOFMONTECRISTO fights off all challengers to win the Jumbo Jet

Beaten just once in six starts as a three-year-old (when third in the Group 1 Singapore Guineas), COUNTOFMONTECRISTO is back on the winning trail after a short let-up.

The New Zealand gelding resumed from three-month break to win a Benchmark 97 three weeks ago and this afternoon, took it up a notch when he captured the Group 3 Jumbo Jet Trophy at Kranji this afternoon.

COUNTOFMONTECRISTO was the second choice from Michael Clements' stable as it was ALIBI who was punters' favourite in the 1400m weight-for-age event.

But the son of Echoes Of Heaven, ridden by Alan Munro, never let his rivals a chance, leading from start to finish to deny DEBT COLLECTOR a back-to-back double in the Jumbo Jet Trophy.

"He’s an absolute superstar,” said Michael White, assistant trainer to Clements. "It was his first time running at weight-for-age level. It was as good a race you would ever get, and he was also racing against his natural pattern because of his wide barrier.

"He didn’t win the Singapore Guineas which was not run to suit him, but that’s the past now.."
