COUNTOFMONTECRISTO maintained his unbeaten record when he captured the Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint at Kranji here today.

Outsider MACARTHUR set the early pace but was no match for the son of Echoes Of Heaven in the run home in the Group 3 event, the first leg of the Three-Year-Old series.

COUNTOFMONTECRISTO won by 3/4 length to make it four-in-a-row for the gelding who was purchased for NZ$57,500 at the Ready To Run sale.

"He’s done very well considering things didn’t quite go his way in the race. He jumped awkwardly and from a wide gate, we wanted some pace for him to get a good spot, but there was none," said trainer Michael Clements.

"The plan is obviously to go on to the second and third Legs of the 3YO series. From the way he races and on his breeding, I’m sure he’ll get even better over further."

Replicate, the dam of COUNTOFMONTECRISTO, won over 2000m.
