Faaltless wins second Garden City Trophy

FAALTLESS was at the height of his game in 2014 when he won three of seven starts that year, including the Group 3 Garden City Trophy.

But chips setbacks meant that he started just four times in 2015 and raced only six times last year without success.

After two more unplaced runs back in January, FAALTLESS was spelled and made his comeback in the 2017 edition of the Garden City Trophy at Kranji today.

Partnered by Matthew Poon, the now seven-year-old made all the running in the condition-weight event over 1200m, winning by 1 1/4 lengths in a time of 1min 8.90secs.

"This is my first Group win ever. It’s my biggest success and I’m happy things are going very well in Singapore," said Poon who honed his skills i the 2015/2016 season in South Australia.

"I’m very proud of the horse given the problems he had. He had chips to his fetlock and we gave him four runs and he had chips to the other fetlock,” said trainer Shane Baertschiger. "We were wondering if we should go on and then we gave him time off. We changed his diet as he was a bit heavy, and today he was down to 498kgs which is only two kilos below his winning racing weight."

Poon also took out the opening event on HONOR to add to his success on CERAINLY on Friday evening.
