Southern Hussler wins first-up in Ipoh

SOUTHERN HUSSLER, who managed one win in 15 starts at Kranji, began the third phase of his career on a winning note when he triumphed in a Class 4 sprint over the 1100m straight course here today.

The son of Hussonet, who cost NZ$57,500 as a yearling, was placed twice in three starts as a juvenile in New Zealand.

SOUTHERN HUSSLER won an Open Maiden race in June last year and although he was placed twice in six subsequent starts, he was sold and dispatched to Penang to join Sharee Hamilton.

Despite a six-month layoff, the four-year-old settled just off the pace and easily raced past the front-running and favourite LUCKY DAPPER to win by 1 1/4 lengths.
