IRON MAN completed a hat-trick of
with a gutsy display in the Benchmark 83 - 1400m event at Kranji here
tonight.
While he set the pace two starts back and trailed in second spot last time
out before winning in Kranji Stakes C company, the Argentinean gelding was
well back in the early running.
The five-year-old was still a long way from the leader at the home bend but
under jockey Barend Vorster, he put on wings on the home stretch and by the
100m, was locked in a battle with CERTAINLY and AL GREEN for the lead.
IRON MAN held off CERTAINLY to win by half a length for his fourth win in 16
starts at Kranji.
The gelding won thrice from 4 runs as a juvenile in Argentina before coming
to Singapore.
"It
was a massive win tonight," said Vorster. "They went hard early, so he was
always going to make up ground and as he was proven over more ground before,
he had the stamina and still stayed."
