JUPITER GOLD passed his biggest
test yet when he defeated DEBT COLLECTOR and company in the Open Stakes
event over 1600m at Kranji here tonight.
Thrust into open company for the first time after a double strike in Class 3
in January, punters placed him marginally ahead of last year's Horse Of
The Year in the betting, starting at $9 for a win, partly because the
three-year-old was receiving 7kg from the top-weight in the set-weight
event.
Punters' faith was justified when the son of Congrats came from well off the
pace to beat NOVA STRIKE by half a length with DEBT COLLECTOR a similar
distance away third. It was his fourth consecutive win.
Trainer Hideyuki Takaoka was no doubt the weight difference was a telling
factor but also praised his charge who will be eyeing the three-year-old
series coming up soon.
JUPITER GOLD has now picked up six wins from nine starts after being bought
for A$130,000 as a yearling.
Meanwhile, a
veterinary examination of DEBT COLLECTOR revealed that the horse exhibited
signs of respiratory distress after the race.
