Value Of Justice snatches Gold Cup

Just last month, VALUE OF JUSTICE beat one home in his first crack at a big race when 15th (of 16 runners) in the Coronation Cup (1600m) in Ipoh.

And two weeks ago, the Australian gelding gave no indication of what was to come when eighth in a set-weight 1800m event at Sungei Besi.

A winner in Class 4 just two months ago, VALUE OF JUSTICE made a mockery of the ratings (he was one of two runners with lowest rating of 68) when he battled to victory in the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup (2000m) here today, the final day of the 2017 racing season.

The Gold Cup was keenly contested with not more than eight lengths separating the first and last of the 16 runners at the home turn.

VALUE OF JUSTICE was always racing midfield and boxed in on the inside of horses. But jockey Ruzaini Supien managed to find a gap between runners at the 300m and went after STREET TEASE who hit the front 200m out.

VALUE OF JUSTICE stormed to the front close home to win by half a length from STREET TEASE. JUSTICE WORLD was a head away third, with MR ARMSTRONG another head away fourth, giving Frank Maynard a 1-3-4 finish.

VALUE OF JUSTICE had a win and a second in four starts at three in Australia but made no showing in five runs in  Singapore before Lucky Stable shipped him to Malaysia.

Under Maynard, the gelding has now won four times and placed five times in 13 starts.

Lucky Stable first won the Gold Cup when it was a cross-border race with LIGHT OF SUCCESS, trained by Len Treloar, in 2005.

Maynard has won the Cup twice before, with NEW KUALA DIPANG (2007) and YASTRZEMSKI (2014).
