Jordan Mallyon gets first Malaysian win

Talented Australian jockey Jordan Mallyon landed his first win in Malaysia when he partnered STAR CHOICE to victory in a Class 4 - 1400m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

The Starcraft gelding came from sixth most of the way in the 12-horse field to win by half a length.

It was his third win in 10 starts in Malaysia after his transfer from Singapore he picked up one win in seven.

For Mallyon, a grandson of triple Caulfield Cup-winning jockey Mick Mallyon, it was his eighth ride in the country.

Mallyon rode 27 city winners as an apprentice in Melbourne before his career stalled for the first time when he was tipped off a horse at Ballarat and dislocated his knee, putting him out for six months.

After his recovery, he spent two years in Perth before returning to his Victorian base.

Mallyon later developed trouble with his hips and had both operated on in late 2013. After he recovered, he decided to take a further year off.

With just three rides in the 2017/18 season which began on Aug 1, Mallyon, who has ridden 175 winners, is in Malaysia to get his career back on track.
