Big upset by Full Meaning in comeback win

Punters were given a rude shock in the opening event at Sungei Besi here today when FULL MEANING, who has fared badly since winning back-to-back races early last year, sprang a big surprise in a race where there was no clear favourite.

SEA MASTER, the mount of champion jockey Jose de Souza, was the first choice of the punters but started at generous odds (RM21).

ELEGENT (RM25) went off as the second favourite but found one to beat in FULL MEANING who has finished in the tail-end of races in 10 of his last 11 outings.

FULL MEANING, placed once in seven starts in Singapore, has scored thrice for trainer Frank Maynard since coming to Malaysia. But few gave him a chance and he started as the rank outsider at RM398.

Ridden by Lou Ho who had partnered him in all his previous wins, FULL MEANING came from well off the pace to swamp the field in the final 200m to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

For the second consecutive day, home based trainers made a clean sweep of the race, taking all six races yesterday and nine today.
