Dinghu Mountain wins Singapore debut

DINGHU MOUNTAIN, a three-time winner in New South Wales, began his Singapore career on a winning note when he easily won the Class 3 - 1200m sprint at Kranji here tonight.

Despite a last-minute switch of rider to Benny Woodworth, the Snitzel four-year-old had no difficulty coming from just off the pace to win by 1 1/2 lengths, beating the favourite CONILAD.

"He has trained and trialled very well here. He was a little caught behind the other horse but when it stayed open on the inside, he went through and scored a nice win," said trainer Shane Baertschiger.

DINGHU MOUNTAIN was purchased for A$725,000 and showed promise as a juvenile with a win at Hawkesbury and a second at Warwick Farm from as many starts.

Although he picked up one more win at three and another at four, his record did not quite justify his price tag.

But after his winning start at Kranji, Woodworth thinks he will improved. "He is definitely of Class 3 quality, and will keep improving here."
