Saimee saddles first double

Newly-licensed trainer Saimee Jumaat, on the scene since July, registered his first double when he saddled HEE'S FORTE and DANZEB to victory in the opening two races at Kranji here tonight.

HEE'S FORTE, who won two races for Laurie Laxon and one for Sonny Yeoh, was starting for the fourth time under Saimee.

Having finished down the field in his last outing early this month, the New Zealand gelding started at long odds, winning by 3/4 length and paid $151 for a win.

DANZEB broke through for his maiden win in nine starts with a half-length win in the Maiden - 1200m sprint.

The gelding started odds-on in his last start nearly two months but finished a well-beaten fifth. This time, he was quickly in the lead and although briefly headed at the home bend, fought back gamely.

"I  thought he had enough after his last run. The race might have come too soon and flattened him a little," said Saimee. "I  gave him a break and luckily, he’s come back in good shape first-up."
