It took SECRET WIN, a winner over 1600m in three starts in New Zealand, 11 attempts to get off the mark in Singapore.

Then, in the space of eight days, the Australian gelding turned from a humble Class 4 winner to a group winner after he caused a big upset in the S$150,000 El Dorado Classic (2200m) at Kranji here today.

The five-year-old was running last early in the capacity 16-horse field and was still second last making turn into the straight.

But under the able hands of Benny Woodworth who also rode him the last time, SECRET WINS put on wings in the home stretch to pick up his rivals one by one to win by half a length ahead of the favourite CHAIRMAN. He paid $197.

SECRET WIN's success marked the first group win for Daniel Meagher who for many year was assistant to his father John at Kranji.

The Meaghers returned to Australia but Daniel eventually came back to Singapore last year to set up his own stables.

It’s fantastic I’ve won my first Group win at only my second year of training here, and I hope I’m on track to emulating what my father John has achieved here, and do him, mum, (brothers) Chris and Paul proud,” said Daniel.
