Big upset by Reach For The Sun

REACH FOR THE SUN resumed from a 4 1/2-month break to land the biggest shock of the new season at Kranji here tonight.

Rank outsider in the Benchmark 67 - 1000m sprint on the polytrack, the final event of the programme, the son of California Dane came from just off the pace to by one length and paid $341 for a win.

It was the fourth win in 22 starts for REACH FOR THE SUN and a return to form for the ridgeling who opened his Singapore account with three unbeaten starts in mid-2014, after having been placed in all his six starts in Australia.

"Reach For The Sun was coming back from a long break, but his lead-up work had been good," said trainer Desmond Koh. "He was not too overweight. I thought he would need the run but I was still expecting him to run well."

There was also a debut win for DECRETO in the Restricted Maiden - 1100m sprint. The gelding is a half-brother to SUSPECT, a four-time winner in Malaysia.
