Tannhauser scores runaway win again

For the second time in three starts, TANNHAUSER annihilated his rivals to emerge as a bright prospect for the Singapore Guineas next month.

It was just two weeks ago that the son of Tavistock came out from a five-month break, and after being gelded, to beat a Restricted Maiden by 9 1/4 lengths.

On the back of that performance, TANNHAUSER was backed as if he could not lose in the Novice event over 1200m on the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.

Ridden by Vlad Duric, TANNHAUSER made all the running to win by 6 3/4 lengths.

As impressive as the victory was, trainer Michael Clements is still not certain if the gelding will start in the Guineas.

"We’ll see how he pulls up. The Guineas is three weeks away, but it’s not the ideal prep for such a race," said trainer Michael Clements. "He’s a speedy sort and it’s not ideal for him to just go to the mile. At this stage, I would say it’s 50/50."

Clements paid NZ$115,000 for TANNHAUSER at the Premier Yearling sale and the gelding ran unplaced in his debut last November.
