After failing to run a place in 10
starts since arriving in Singapore two years ago before moving to Malaysia,
ROYAL CHOICE was finally off the mark when running out an easy winner in the
Hioniti 1953 Handicap here today.
The four-year-old thus made history by becoming the first horse from Uruguay
to win a race in the Malaysia/Singapore circuit.
Ridden for the first time by Yan Weng Kuan, ROYAL CHOICE made all the
running to win by 2 1/4 lengths in the Class 5 - 1400m handicap.
ROYAL CHOICE is by the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Smarty
Jones and his dam was unbeaten in three starts in Brazil.
A heavy downpour caused the cancellation of the last three races today.
