VOLCANIC GENERAL storms home on the outside to win the Penang Sprint
Trophy |

Classy import VOLCANIC GENERAL once
again proved that he's a class above the rest when he captured the Penang
Sprint Trophy over 1400m here today.
Drawn wide in the capacity field, jockey Ruzaini Supien had to be patient on
the Australian gelding, bidding for his time in midfield early.
D'GREAT CONQUEROR headed the early front-runner KERAUNO making the turn into
the straight and by this time, VOLCANIC GENERAL was in a handy position.
D'GREAT CONQUEROR kicked away at the 200m but VOLCANIC GENERAL, taking wide
out for his run, was just about to get going. VOLCANIC GENERAL swept to the
lead in a matter of strides and went on to win by 2 3/4 lengths.
Winner of five races in Australia including three at Caulfield, VOLCANIC
GENERAL made a winning debut in Malaysia by taking out the Tunku Gold Cup
(1200m) back in January.
He then finished second to LISTEN in the Selangor Gold Cup (1600m) and
second again to INDIAN JADE in the Perak Gold Vase (1100m) early this month.
