Wimbledon aces seasonal debut

WIMBLEDON, placed thrice in group races last year, has begun the new season with a 'bang', making all the running to win the Kranji Stakes A - 1200m sprint at Kranji here tonight.

The son of Snitzel won a similar race last September and has since been unplaced twice before making his first appearance of 2016 today.

Ridden by Vlad Duric for the first time in a race, WIMBLEDON beat the favourite NOVA STRIKE and two other more fancied runners to win by half a length.

The win brought much relief to Duric, second to Manoel Nunes in the premiership last year, as it was the first success of 2016.

With the breakthrough, Duric went on to complete a treble with BRAHMA CIRCUS and SUPERNOVA.
