Forever Young bags Singapore Guineas

A bold front-running tactic adopted by Benny Woodworth enabled FOREVER YOUNG to captured the Singapore Guineas ahead of two heavyweights, and gave jockey-turned-trainer Kuah Cheng Tee his first Group 1 success.

JUPITER GOLD (six wins from 11 starts) and COUNTOFMONTECRISTO (five from six) were the clear favourites in the three-year-old contest over 1600m.

But FOREVER YOUNG took command on settling down and refused to surrender the lead to beat JUPITER GOLD by 3/4 length. COUNTOFMONTECRISTO was 1 1/4 lengths away third.

FOREVER YOUNG paid $71 in his third win from six starts. It was also his first attempt over the mile trip.

"It’s my first Group 1 win, but it hasn’t sunk in yet. I am just thrilled this horse has proven me right," said Kuah.

"I always felt he was a 1400m-1600m horse, but I purposely skipped the 1400m Leg and used the Lion City Cup as a lead-up race to the Guineas instead. He ran very well in the Lion City Cup and could have even finished closer if he didn’t get a bad check in the backstraight."

FOREVER YOUNG finished fourth to LIM'S CRUISER in the Lion City Cup.
