Ateej stars in Malaysia with unbeaten runs

Although ATEEJ did not contest the recent Malaysia 3YO Championship series, the Argentinian gelding is proving to be one of top three-year-olds in the country after winning again in a Class 4 - 1200m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

The son of Equal Stripes had gotten his Malaysian campaign to a great start with a runaway win in Open Maiden company here on July 8. Trainer Tan Soo Beng elected not to run him in the final heat of the 3YO series a week later, nor the Final itself on July 28. Perhaps it would have been 'too much, too soon'.

Whatever, ATEEJ, named after the famed Kuwaiti movie of the same name, has continued his winning ways.

Installed favourite today, ATEEJ however had to work harder this time, fighting off the challenge of MR DREYFUSS to win by a nose.

ATEEJ found one to beat in two runs under Ricardo Le Grange in Singapore last year, had a change of trainer early this year before it was decided to move him to Malaysia.
