Ryan Curatolo lands first double

Despite losing his whip half way down the home stretch, jockey Ryan Curatolo still managed to get CHALAZA home the winner in the final event here tonight, giving the French rider a double for the meeting.

Curatolo first rode the New Zealand gelding two weeks ago and the pair came from a long way back to finish second over 1000m on the polytrack.

CHALAZA appreciated the longer tonight, as he again settled in midfield before making his challenge in the straight.

"When I lost my whip at the 200m mark, I grabbed his mane and pushed him with all my might, and luckily, he kept going," said Curatolo. "The horse was well placed. He was in the right spot in the race."

CHALAZA has now won four times in 13 starts since arriving unraced in mid 2016.

Earlier in the evening, Curatolo partnered CLAUDIA'S BEAUTY to a popular win in the Open Maiden - 1400m event.

The Australian mare, placed thrice in five starts in Australia, was having his third outing at Kranji.
