Firdzriel gets early win

It took new apprentice Firdzriel
Nur Haquemi Izham just two warm-up rides yesterday to find his feet in his
debut weekend at Ipoh with a horse who was racing for the first time in
Malaysia.
The nephew of successful jockeys Azhar Ismail and Ismadi Ismail (now a
trainer in Ipoh) confidently took top-weight SUPER WINNER to the front in
the Enrich Stakes A event over the 1100m straight course.
The Australian gelding then kept up a relentless gallop to score by 1 1/4
lengths from RELAU STAR who took a possibility at the 100m but drifted in
badly in the closing stages.
SUPER WINNER won 11 times in 26 starts in Singapore, earning just over
$900,000. At his best, the gelding was third to ZAC SPIRIT in the 2016 Lion
City Cup.
The inaugural running of the China Horse Club Friendship Trophy was won by
MR NEVERMIND who romped home by 1 1/2 lengths in the Cosmo B set-weight
event over 1400m.
The New Zealand gelding has now two wins and a third in three starts since
relocating from Singapore where he won twice in nine outings.
