rivals for maiden win

Marc Lerner nearly had a perfect
start to his Singapore stint last Sep 14 when his mount MORITZ ECLIPSE beat all
but LIM'S LIGHTNING.
Since then, the German-based rider's search for his first Kranji win was
interrupted several times through suspensions.
Several weeks later, it was the same MORITZ ECLIPSE who gave the jockey his
breakthrough win in the Class 3, Div 1 - 1400m handicap at Kranji here
tonight.
In all but one of the gelding's nine previous starts this season, MORITZ
ECLIPSE started showing three-figure dividends. Tonight was no different.
This time though, Lerner was able to bring him from a long way back in the
early running to win by three-quarter length. It his was 23rd ride in
Singapore and MORITZ ECLIPSE paid $106.
"MORITZ
ECLIPSE is a horse I know quite well as I finished second on him at my
first race meeting here, but I didn’t like his work during the week, he felt
stiff,” said Lerner, son of French trainer Carlos Lerner. "But during the
race, I had him settled in a lovely spot, just like at the first time I rode
him. He was actually very comfortable and travelling better than I thought
he would.
I really like Singapore, even if it’s been a tough start. You need good
horses, and I hope this first win will help bring me better support."
MORITZ ECLIPSE, a full brother to FATED and DYLAN, has now five wins in 31
starts.
