Dinghu Mountain bounces back in style

DINGHU MOUNTAIN staged a complete turnaround to capture the S$100,000 Racing Australia Trophy at Kranji here today.

When the Snitzel gelding last raced four weeks ago, he finished dead last (12th) in a Class 2 field.

John Powell, who piloted the five-year-old to victory two starts back, was back in the saddle today and the magic returned right away in the Kranji Stakes B event over 1400m.

Racing third most of the way on the rails, Powell could not get a run in between the two front-runners at the top of the straight. He had to wait patiently and managed to ease DINGHU MOUNTAIN out behind the heels of GUILTY PLEASURES to get a run.

DINGHU MOUNTAIN hit the front 100m out, then had to stave off the challenge of KINGSMAN to win by a short head. He paid $157.

"The winner himself won first-up, and then was caught three wide at his last run, so you could put a line through that," said trainer Shane Baertschiger.

It's the third win in 11 starts in Singapore for DINGHU MOUNTAIN who cost A$725,000 as a yearling. He raced for three seasons in Australia, winning three races.
