Back-in-form Showboy bags OUG Jade Cup

Oscar Chavez, back in Malaysia after pitting his skills against some of the best riders in the region in Singapore for the past many years, made a winning comeback when he scored in his first ride astride BAHAR at Sungei Besi here today.

The Panamanian, a top rider in the MRA circuit before making Kranji his base when Malaysian and Singapore racing went separate ways, went on to score on SHOWBOY in the feature race of the day, the RM55,000 OUG Jade Cup over 1200m.

BAHAR was back in the winner's circle after finding one to beat last start, making it two wins in his last three starts for the New Zealand gelding.

SHOWBOY, who started his career with four consecutives wins in late 2015 and early 2016, was back in the winner's circle after 11 months.

After his last victory last March, SHOWBOY was placed in three of his next four starts including a third in the Perak Gold Vase last July. He was racing for the second time after a six-month spell and a transfer to trainer Frank Maynard.
