Suriya off the mark with Prince Raven

Apprentice Suriya Arunasalam made his only ride of the day count when he piloted PRINCE RAVEN to victory in the Class 4 - 1200m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

It was the maiden success for the 20-year-old who was having in 11th career ride.

The Charles Leck apprentice has been placed twice before and his win astride PRINCE RAVEN was totally unexpected as the gelding had finished down the field in six runs since coming to Malaysia from Singapore.

Now trained by Charles Leck, Suriya's master, PRINCE RAVEN was in the rear bunch early and made up a little ground making the turn into the straight.

PRINCE RAVEN was inclined to hand in in the home stretch but Suriya managed to get the gelding going to win drawing away by 1 1/4 lengths, beating the odds-on favourite PREMIUM STATS. He paid RM235.

PRINCE RAVEN won once in three starts in Australia and had 27 runs in Singapore for two wins.
