Volcanic General lands Tunku Gold Cup double

Trainer Charles Leck's strategy of racing VOLCANIC GENERAL sparingly has brought rich rewards for the Australian gelding.

The son of Magnus was an instant hit in January last year when he won his Malaysian debut in the Tunku Gold Cup (1200m).

VOLCANIC GENERAL went on to run second in the Selangor Gold Cup (1600m), second in the Perak Gold Vase (1100m) before winning the Penang Sprint Trophy (1400m) last July.

The gelding was tested in the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor (2000m) but failed to stay the distance before ending the 2017 season with a second in the Coronation Cup (1600m).

Sent for a spell on the sideline, VOLCANIC GENERAL resumed in the 2018 Tunku Gold Cup which has been moved to April this year at Sungei Besi here today.

And it's a double for the six-year-old when he finished second to MR NEVERMIND in the 1200m sprint but successfully protested against the winner for interference at the 100m.

VOLCANIC GENERAL came to Malaysia with an impressive record, after winning five races including three at Caulfield.
